چکیده
Background Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) is a malabsorption syndrome characterised by severe reduction of the absorbent surface intestinal mucosa. Treatment this condition needs multi-professional teams and different therapies, which are not always enough to ensure enteral autonomy. New techniques being explored, particularly distraction enterogenesis, can allow lengthening residual intestines these patients. This study aims demonstrate possibility using biodegradable materials design ingestible capsules carry 3D-printed springs capable reaching patient’s intestine. These devices could be used as slightly invasive enterogenesis technique, stimulating cell proliferation elongation without surgery. Materials methods Capsules were realised with gelatin from pigskin type A Sigma-Aldrich mixed regenerated silk fibroin (RS) obtained reverse engineering on Bombyx Mori cocoons. Springs composed structure modified graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) externally covered polyhydroxybutyrate-valerate (PHBV) shell. 3D printing, through which, an extruder, PHBV RS compounds deposited simultaneously in structure. The springs’ then analysed solvents simulating gastric environment verify their resistance degradation. PBS (Phosphate Buffered Saline), calcium chloride magnesium (CaCl 2 + MgCl ), pH value 7.4, was degradative agent; for tract, we chose acetic acid, CH 3 COOH, at 12% 2.3. Results While gelatin-only showed poor degradation PBS, new compound based excellent environments, allowing pills reach intestine dissolving. In addition, results show variability release times function values elastic constants used: latter determined that time increased increase constant. contrast, opposite trend observed. Conclusions Our confirm gelatin, transporting implantable endoluminal structures, drugs, or growth factors, laying foundations approach SBS

In Situ Characterization of Two Wireless Transmission Schemes for Ingestible Capsules
We report the experimental in situ characterization of 30-40 MHz and 868 MHz wireless transmission schemes for ingestible capsules, in porcine carcasses. This includes a detailed study of the performance of a magnetically coupled near-field very high-frequency (VHF) transmission scheme that requires only one eighth of the volume and one quarter of the power consumption of existing 868-MHz solut...
متن کاملSprings and Constraints for 3D Drawing
In this paper we present examples of haptic sculpting mediated by a physical model or constraint. Most current work in haptic drawing and sculpting focuses on interacting with a static model and properly simulating contact forces. Our work proposes dynamic models for the creative process. These are based on physical models, but present physically impossible scenarios which allow new forms of ex...
متن کاملOptimisation of a Horizontal Capsule Transporting Pipeline carrying Cylindrical Capsules
Pipelines carrying fluids and slurries are quite common. The third-generation pipelines carrying spherical or cylindrical capsules (hollow containers) filled with minerals or other materials including hazardous liquids are rather a new concept. These pipelines need to be designed optimally for commercial viability. An optimal design of such a pipeline results in minimum pressure drop in the pip...

متن کاملTreatment of Intercondylar Humeral Fractures With 3D-Printed Osteosynthesis Plates
The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy custom 3D-printed osteosynthesis plates in the treatment of intercondylar humeral fractures.Thirteen patients with distal intercondylar humeral fractures were randomized to undergo surgery using either conventional plates (n = 7) or 3D-printed plates (n = 6) at our institution from March to October 2014. Both groups were compared in terms of ope...
